Seasonal Reflections – Spring Equinox Ritual

Tomorrow (Sunday 20th) marks the spring equinox and the start of spring in the northern hemisphere.

As some of you will know I’m a huge believer in honouring the cycles of the earth as we all experience these seasonal changes and cycles even if we aren’t consciously aware of them – although most of us are! They affect so many aspects of our lives including our energy, our mood and how we spend our time.

The last few months have been a time of grounding, recovery and restoration over winter, laying the foundations and creating fertile soil for what is to come. You may have noticed this in your body – wanting more sleep and nourishing hearty food.

Spring is a time of renewal and blossoming. We see this just by noticing what is happening around us – longer days, the colour of the daffodils coming into flower and the warmer temperatures. Maybe you have more energy and zest for life, perhaps there’s an urge to declutter and shed the layers of winter. If you have been sowing seeds of ideas, projects or change over the past few months then maybe these will be starting to bloom and blossom.

The temptation with Spring can be to take the initial burst of energy and go off at maximum pace, firing on all cylinders – this is a regular pattern of mine!

I try to think of spring as a time of patience, gently building momentum towards the summer – nature never rushes, and yet everything gets done perfectly.

Here are some questions you might like to journal on to celebrate the turn of the season. I like to turn this into a seasonal ritual, lighting a candle or sitting outside to write.

  • What am I proud of over the past season?
    • What went well
    • What am I grateful for?
    • What did I enjoy doing or experiencing?
  •  What am I leaving behind in the past season?
  • How do I want to experience Spring?
  • How do I want to feel during the coming season?
  • What are my intentions?
  • Imagine it is 21st June – the end of spring.  How do you want to feel then? What would you like to be different (if anything) by then?
  • How can I honour my needs during the next season?
